I will keep this review short and sweet: Pluses: Nice attractive color, Spigot and valve ON the pitcher so no need to remove the pitcher from the fridge everytime you want some water, Zero-water meter is included (and can be stored IN the pitcher)Minuses: Capacity could be greater. Filter is so massive that you go through the filtered water QUICKLY, especially if you have a larger family;AND...the #1 drawback: This pitcher filters VERY SLOWLY. I am used to other Brita-type units and this is the slowest I've ever seen. Often when the pitcher is over half-full, and I fill the top reservoir, it doesn't drain completely after 3-4 HOURS. I'm on my second unit. It works about the same as other inline filters I've used with regard to taste of the water. It seems not to last as long, but maybe my waster quality has changed, but it lasts long enough considering the price. I do like the quick connect fitting system. My filter is located in an awkward location, and not having to snug up compression fitting anymore to copper tubing is a big help. I've read other reviews comment on black particles. You have to flush out the filter before you hook up the outlet end to your refrigerator. Just like any other filter. Maybe a gallon at most. I just do it until I don't see black particles coming out. The instructions say to do this as well, but I think it says to use more water. I test my water regularly out of the tap and it shows 240. I test the water out of my R/O system and it tests at 22. The water coming out of my ref with the GE filter which comes from the R/0 system is 20. I have the cleanest water in our neighborhood. The only issue I had was the GE filter took a couple of months to get back to "normal" testing range. When I fist installed it, the water tested at 40. Now that it's back to "normal" I'm pleased. Also the install was easy - reading the simple directions took longer that the install. They also usually have a little of the red indicator already showing, but not these from Amazon. I cant say how many gallons Ive gotten but I would say a couple months pass before I change it. I never feel like, 'Boy I just changed this thing'. I use it for all cooking, tea, washing vegetables and I drink lots of water everyday. Most of the reviews for the 3-stage complain about low water pressure and not lasting very long but I dont have that issue with these 2-stage. As ususal new does not mean better. I've had no such problem with the original filter and two replacements that I've installed. (And yuck! to see what those filters have removed from the city water!) So, maybe higher than normal water pressure is the problem and could possibly be regulated. Just a thought.My Rating:The filters are 5-star performers but even at Amazon's lower price, I still consider them "pricey", so I dropped a star.My Tip:I kept my last filter in until performance (delivered water flow rate) had diminished considerably. It was sort of an experiment in economy. I was surprised when my ice maker started to jam with the under-sized "cubes" (they are actually shaped like half of a large thick coin) resulting from the slower water flow through the old filter. One or more of the ice ejector cogs would get jammed with one of the "runt" cubes. What obviously happens is that the water fill operation is controlled entirely by a timer, so reduced flow results in less water delivered to the tray cavities. The cycle continues and results in small cubes of ice for which the ejectors are not designed.So my tip is that if you try to extend the life of the filter by accepting the slower water delivery rate, pay attention to the size of the ice cubes. When they are reduced to about two-thirds normal size, the ice maker is likely to become jammed. It's easy to see the problem after removing the cover from the ice maker, but the only solution is to install a new filter. It's very convenient -- just pour water into the top, and it will, albeit slowly, drip through the filter. Over time, as the filter clogs, it will get slower, so the key is to add more water every time you pour more out -- that way, it's filtering while you are drinking and you aren't waiting.It's actually much more convenient than the faucet-mount filters, which inevitably leak and get painfully slow and force you to wait...Pur is better than Brita, by the way, if you get the Ultimate filters, which filter out cryptosporidium and giardia in addition to chemicals and gunk. I like hot water on the red tap, and room temperature water on the blue tap, and it's actually very hard to find that combination of features.Unfortunately, the water that comes out tastes like burnt plastic. I called manufacturer, who suggested soaking the inside of the unit with solution of baking soda (1 Tbsp), vinegar (1 Tbsp), and water (1 Gal), but this did not fix the problem. One other note: Having tried out a few water dispenser units recently, I can say without a doubt that this one has the most annoying child safety device on the hot water tap. As a result, the hot water tap is awkward to use.Manufacturer offered to send a replacement but it would take three weeks to arrive. Since we had already waited two weeks for delivery of the original unit, I decided to return the product for a refund instead.The Amazon.com return page said I would have to pay return shipping, but I called Amazon and they sent me a free return shipping label.
